Located along the Jeddah Corniche, the Al Nawras Skatepark project transformed underused public waterfront space into a dedicated, community focused urban sports facility. Developed across RIBA Stages 2 to 4 (Concept Design through to Technical Design), the project was shaped through direct participatory engagement with local skate communities to ensure the spatial layout met genuine user needs and technical performance expectations.
The master plan integrates a dual strategy of permanent concrete terrain features and modular, moveable structural elements that allow the park layout to adapt for competitions, workshops and public events. The technical development addressed complex coastal environmental conditions, including salt air corrosion, drainage, night illumination and high impact surface durability. By balancing fluid transit paths with integrated spectator seating and shaded public areas, the design revitalized a neglected stretch of the corniche into a safe, vibrant urban hub that celebrates local youth culture and active public life.
