ROBOTS HAVE FEELINGS TOO
The word “robot” is derived from the word “robota”, meaning forced labour. As artificial intelligence is becoming more and more prolific in our worlds, it has cemented itself within society and its is helping us to determine how we think, move, and create. It is slowly finding its way towards consciousness. This animation follows a protagonist, navigating a similar journey to find consciousness and breaking out of his “labour” to give him answers of who he is. It ruminates on the boundaries between what makes one human and non-human, represented through a series of landscapes stills. This imagery showcases Saudi motifs and identity as the character interacts through them. This story is mirrored by my search for authenticity, going back to my roots, and how it impacted me as a Saudi.
