THIRD SPACE* Studio is an art and research-led interdisciplinary architecture practice. We establish our theoretical standpoint amongst our post-modern and post-colonial predecessors, as one of dialogue, mediation and hybridity.

Mohsin Ali is an award-winning architectural designer and researcher whose work and practice explore the relationships between urban space, global systems of power, and lived diasporic reality. His work often investigates convivial sites to address the intrinsic relationship between global systems of modernity on the everyday. Besides his formal research, Ali looks towards art methods to communicate these ideas of in-betweenness, liminality and dichotomy. These include ‘Inside of My Tiffin’ (2022), and ‘Edges and the In-Between’ (2022), exhibited at the Benzie Building and at Sindbad: Land of Fragile Hearts. These artworks ruminate on the internal negotiations that occur within the migrant when obtaining truth and consolidating complex globalised realities of mobility and violence. Collaborative ethnography and archival curation are core to his research design and methodologies. His multi-disciplinary approach aims to optimise the dialogic capabilities of visual media in exploiting otherwise unseen realities around migrancy and race.

Landscape architect, engineer, film maker, artist
e. University of Business and Technology Jeddah (2014-2018)

Interests:
non-human and human intersections, story-telling, narrative urbanisms, cinema in the expanded field, sub-human/extra-human relationships

Abdullah Alamoudi is an interdisciplinary designer and artist with formal training in the fields of Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture. His work often addresses the nature of reality and truth, with a focus on narrative world-building as a methodology. Through these worlds and his training, Alamoudi questions the relationship between humans, objects and landscape, and the metaphysical distinctions that distinguish and separate the two. These are best seen in his artworks ‘Man Falling’ (2022) and ‘The Fruits of Your Labour’ (2023) exhibited respectively at Athr Gallery and Ithra Gallery. Alamoudi’s intersectional and multidisciplinary practice often subverts mediums through which questions of reality and humanity are portrayed. Abdullah Alamoudi’s work and practice thus offer an entirely new medium to explore his artistic and professional interests in lived realities within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and their greater impacts on social ecosystems.
