THIRD SPACE* Studio is an art and research-led interdisciplinary architecture practice. We establish our theoretical standpoint amongst our post-modern and post-colonial predecessors, as one of dialogue, mediation and hybridity.
According to Homi K. Bhabha, the Third Space, is a site that emerges through interaction between the first and second space. Here, the Third Space is fundamentally a product of negotiation and of intersection. This interest in intersectionality, in-betweenness and liminality are fundamental to our approach to design and client. We see our studio and our work as a continuous investigation into how three-dimensional design can communicate complex information, and provide spatial solutions.
We have a multi-methodological approach to our practice, with focuses on experimentation, research and artistic methods. We use these methods to express narrative journeys and story-telling. Our formal training in architecture drives our curiosity for the built environment, and fuels our interests into the relationships between the human, object and space. We see composing these relationships as opportunities to communicate, celebrate and expand the practice of design and art.
The THIRD SPACE* is a site of entanglement.
